Try 4-7-8 Breathing to Help You Relax

4-7-8 Breathing is a great breathing technique to try out to help you relax, especially if you are having severe stress and anxiety or just unable to shut your mind off when trying to sleep.  After getting into a comfortable position, inhale slowly through your nose for a count of 4, then hold your breath for a count of 7, then exhale slowly for a count of 8.  Think about expanding your diaphragm on the inhale by pushing your belly out and sucking your belly in on the exhale. Try to perform this technique for at least 5-10 minutes before bedtime.  Most likely you'll be asleep before the 10 minutes are up.
